I knew a guy with a Naval Gunfire MOS when I was in the Marines. Marines with the Naval Gunfire MOS served as Forward Observers for off shore Naval assets. He told me of an unusual thing that happened when he was in Viet Nam. He was on patrol with an infantry unit, which is a common thing for Forward Observers, when something uncommon happened. They spotted a very large daylight movement of NVA soldiers. We're talking hundreds of NVA Regulars moving during the day. The other unusual thing was that the USS New Jersey, with her 16" guns was crusing off shore and within range. So, they did their job and called in a fire mission to the New Jersey. After it was all over and "the smoke had cleared," the patrol was ordered to get a body count. They had to call back to the New Jersey to say that they couldn't get a body count because they couldn't find any bodies. They couldn't find enough pieces of bodies among the destroyed equipment that were big enough to get an accurate count.
