Virginia has property tax on cars every year too - it's can be several thousand dollars / year for new vehicles.

I have been stopped for not having one while I do. Its towards the side cause I got a winch. Its not much more stupid than the current registration being in the front windshield instead of on the tag like it use to be.

I lost my front license plate off roading years ago and couldn't find it. Never have me any issues.

Ohio got rid of theirs a few years ago, in part due to Michigan, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania not having them either.

I agree, the aesthetics of the front of a vehicle are ruined by a front license plate. I think texas is a state that requires both.

Maine still requires 2, yet most of the tourists that vacation here have 1. Ticketable offense for me if I tried that.

they exist so that the digital license plate readers can read the plates of oncoming traffic in the patrol cars and alert the revenue generator inside the vehicle that there is a violation that they can cite for more revenue for the local or state government

Though in my state cars are required front and back, motorcycles, while required to be licensed, do not have to display a plate at all

Why do you care what it looks like. I would give a fuck if it impaired function but otherwise I don't care.
