It's on the profile page, the resume loaded on the profile page, and even in the email address I use. Three chances, and they failed. Not even an offshore recruiter, either, this is someone trying to find a high-level engineer for some LargeCo that requires citizenship.

I assume if you can't get that small detail right, you're not going to be able to get the big ones right. These idiots are instant block.

So they called you stoopidbird?

[–] 3 pts

In a manner of speaking, you're closer to the truth than you realize.

Dumb chicken?

I've work for the same place for 8 years and they still spell my name wrong, I wear a badge with my name on it. I got a birthday card name spelled two different ways from the card to the envelope, both wrong.

[–] 1 pt

I've had that too, it was the result of an owner that only liked his drinking buddies and everyone else was fuck you.

[–] 1 pt

I'm pretty well liked , I think they just sort of guess

[–] 0 pt

That's actually kind of impressive.

Recruiters are so much fun.......

You did learn one thing from this though: who is hiring and what the reqs are. If this was interesting to you a bit of work and you can find a better recruiter with this req and get the job.

General Dynamics is always hiring. The information is useless because they chew through people like you would chew through a spoonful of mashed potato.

Oh man, I had a sub of GDIT vall.me two weeks ago.. as soon as I found out the prime was gdit I told them to pack up.. they asked why, I said two years ago I was approached by a pm wanting my skills but then I found out gdit removed employees' right to choose the Vax so I would never support anything they did.. I think you dodged a bullet, dude

They're not a place I would consider.

Former employer had some trouble, went out of business, technology was bought by GD. My contact was super burnt out after the closure, so he took a month and went to his folk's cabin in the woods to decompress, completely off the grid. Got back, GD was blowing up his phone wanting him to come there and work for them because the technology they bought was locked up in this guy's head. He said the recruiter left progressively angrier messages, and when he finally answered the recruiter's calls, recruiter was pretty pissy with him.

He said the recruiter angrily told him that this was an opportunity not to miss and that if he came there he'd retire from the place, that's how long they kept people. Recruiter was apparently a super ass, and my contact told him to take a hike.

Contact later told me that a few people GD did manage to hire were let go within 6 months, as soon as GD got the information they needed.

Why does it have such a high turnover?

[–] 5 pts

In some regards, they tend to hire for projects and when the project is done, so are you. I've also had people acqui-hired by them, and when the knowledge transfer is complete they're terminated. It's also just they way they work.

General Dynamics is always hiring.

They are the most communist corporations I have ever worked for and I would play the game with the contractor to get an interview and lay into the interviewer about their shitty corp. They make everyone take a week of commie indoctrination classes! Shit beltway bandit corporation that should be investigated and all the top people jailed at the very least.

[–] 1 pt

Well, if I didn't want to work for them before, I certainly don't now.

was the money good?

[–] 2 pts

It was, but the job was so far above my skill level that I didn't even know what half the terminology meant. They just triggered on some basic keywords and a few technician level words I used.

This always pisses me off. I put Windows desktop on my resume in one tiny little bullet point, and I get contacted all the time for Windows sysadmin jobs. The other 99% of my resume is Linux and security. I honestly know almost nothing about how to admin Windows.

I'm an electronics tech, and I know some python and C++, what electronics tech these days doesn't? I get calls for senior python developers. So, I know your pain.

I remember I was working somewhere where they wouldn’t even look at a resume unless they didn’t use a certain font etc. Some made up requirement serious potential professional engineers had no clue they were being thrown away for. I was wtf floored.

Another place I was helping with interviews for some time. On the one I mentioned this guy has a 4.0 on their masters. The “boss” said “Oh I don’t care”. I thought to myself wtf man, I know we “hate” masters but that’s not an insignificant achievement. That does take talent if not serious talent to pull off. I’m just saying it’s not to be unconsidered. It’s a point.

[–] 1 pt

Typical. They don't even bother reading profiles or resumes anymore - just find a keyword and drop the spiel. Got hit up for an entry-level datacenter gig last week. Admittedly, it made me smile whilst at the same time irritating me.

[–] 2 pts

Yep. I have some technical keywords in my profile, but they are technician-level things. Most recruiters are incapable of reading the resume and seeing that. All they saw was "Word."

[–] 1 pt

Totally. It's not as bad as it was last year but damn, some of these fuckers are as dumb as a bag of hammers

[–] 1 pt

Out of 100 contacts I get, I'd say about:

90 of them are Indian, and useless. They don't get a reply beyond "You're an idiot." 7 are onshore people, and are calling about junk jobs or are keyword spammers. 2 are decent, but know just enough to be dangerous - but not enough to actually find the people they need. 1 is calling with something that's in my field, and skill level.

[–] 1 pt

Stoopidburd

[–] 1 pt

What's really funny is they spelled my name using an "o" instead of the "a" it normally has. Both names sound the same but are spelled different.

[–] 1 pt

Shut up duck.

[–] 1 pt

Go away, groundbound.

[–] 1 pt

Bullets aren't bound by such restrictions.

[–] 1 pt

Right. Your mad ass can't hit shit. Imma gonna schedule you for a complete dawn chorus tomorrow.

[–] 1 pt

Daer sir, pls do the needful inquiry to your situations of employmet.

[–] 1 pt

I haven't had a do the needful for a long time, but I still get a lot of kindly revert to me the detail. "Greeting of the day!" is common now too.

[–] 1 pt

Do the same and spell their name wrong.

Assert dominance.

[–] 0 pt

I sent a message via the internal chat system of the website they used saying "You couldn't be bothered to spell my name right, I'm not interested." That's all.
