My bedroom has pitch black and it really freaked me out. Luckily I had my phone with me so I was able to find my way. I felt like I was in a horror game searching for a candle while holding my phone like a flashlight. Luckily I found one and things are getting a small bit better.

Update: 7:30 AM, still no power. I definitely paid the power bill.

Update: 8:30 AM, power came back on. My oven was blinking 3:11 (the time power went out). Whatever happened to the lines must've been really bad if it took 5 hours and 19 minutes to get the lights back on.

How do you not know your way around your own house in the dark?

If you seriously dont, and that sort of thing bothers you. You should practice it some times.

I just cant imagine not have the simple spacial awareness of your own environment. I am not saying run through your house, but feel for the first object and you should then immediately have a general idea of the remainder.

And make it a challenge at that! Navigate your own home in the dark before the skinwalker gets you!

Lose one point every time you bang your shin into something.

man youre doing things the hard way. have yourself some 'night terrors' - eyes awake and weird shit going on but cant move.

i shit you not im surprised no one called the police the second night i moved in to my last home, in bed, bedroom window opens out on to the street, and me yelling 'help! help!' at 4am...

If you have kids this is an excellent way to find every stray Lego block they have ever lost. In the dark, they roll out of their little hiding spots, like cockroaches and position themselves in high foot traffic areas near where people are most likely to be barefoot, like in the hallways just outside bathrooms and bedrooms. Stairs are another favorite.

Stop being White Supremacist and sexist. Some "people" such as OP are of higher melanin and lower testosterone, decreasing their abilities for spatial awareness and navigation.

I used to live in a house in the mountains and the house would get black as pitch at night. There was absolutely no light and that level of darkness is completely disorienting and rather frightening. Near impossible to find your way; like being in water so deep you can't find up.

you needed more scary stuff and camping in the woods as a child...

Scared of the dark. FFS

Not scared of the dark just unable to see. I don't do camping. Camping for me is a holiday inn.

I keep 2 small flashlights within 5 ft of my bed I can find using touch alone. If I couldn't find them then I'd just use memory to find my way through the house. It's not like it's a strange new place I've just moved into.

Get a generator. I got one about 8000 Watts - more than enough to run my whole house (but not the AC). Hired an electrician to wire a plug on the outside of the house to the main breaker panel. Now when the power goes out, I fire up the generator, plug it in to the house, and throw the master switch on the breaker box. Boom: The whole house is powered.

Generator cost me about $800 delivered. Wiring cost me about $2,000.

Generator runs on both propane and gasoline.

Whole setup was absolutely worth it.

What woke you at 3 though, did it get hot because the AC was shot?

Sorry, I had to charge my gaming laptop.

Imagine not knowing how to navigate your entire house in pitch dark.

don't go camping

Who doesn’t have a flashlight under/ next to their bed for instances like that?

i have a tv going all night with a pc attached to it running a thunderstorm black screen video going for meditation.

i know when the power has blipped here which it does often or off because im awake in about 30 seconds if the tv goes off.

when you grow up relatively near freeway and railway dead silence at night tends to keep you awake.
