No, it's based on the reality that other people never return tools. And the dumb fuckers damage them. I remember a next door neighbor, destroying my father's expensive ratchet screwdriver -- the neighbor used it as a cold chisel to break up concrete, by bashing the end of the handle with a hammer, completely destroying the ratchet mechanism. I've still got the screwdriver -- the ratched won't engage properly, and slips. But the neighbor is long dead, so that's one good thing.

And that's why the tools go home w/ you when you leave. Zen. Or some fake offbrand version of it. Always the latter.
