The first major event in the book aside from initial character development is thousands of women from all around OZ joining an army of all women to take over the emerald city, which is located at the center of OZ and can considered to be the “capital city”.

They refer to OZ as “their oppressors” and that OZ has many emeralds that would be better suited to put in their jewelry and buy new gowns with.

They are warned that war will be deadly how do they plan to survive? They say silly! We are women! No man would dare hurt a woman and besides there isn’t an ugly face in our ranks!

The book was written in 1904. The 19th amendment in 1920.

The guard at the gates tells them they should go back to milk the cows and bake the bread. Then they swarm the city and take it. Who because of a good times leader no one feared, the army was weak (the bad times leader being, the wizard of Oz who left).

Also it was a “surprise attack” that the leader said “she was surprised they didn’t see it coming since they had been formed outside for quite awhile.” And when describing the women in the herd they were like a bunch of women just on a picnic. And when spoken to and rallied up only half were listening instead of gossiping.

So a loose nit bunch that didn’t even know what they were apart of, planned ahead long ago, and been building up ranks in plain sight. And were going, in their minds for “free stuff just sitting around better suited to their needs by their oppressors”
