They'd do damage control by calling Ukraine "adventurism" and criticize that.
What energizes the populist element is not so much the hypocrisy, which by itself is demoralizing. What undoes the effect of the hypocrisy, is the lack of self awareness.
To defeat public criticism they have to become their own critics. Otherwise the voices of the public they ignore, will only grow louder.
I would also link the adventurism angle back to afghanistan. Have Biden claim no one else was "morally sturdy" enough (lol) to do what needed done, which was end a losing war before more people died. Go so far as to say that meetup with the troops where they ate pizza, was his "moment" where he had "clarity" and realized then, the soldiers sitting right next to him? He didnt want them to die. And heres the kicker "for another president's senseless war."
This works because it will piss a bunch of people off and get headlines, offering an opportunity for the pundits to punch up. "Another president's war? What about ukraine?", "a president who doesnt have the guts to send men to war.", etc And it doesnt explicitly point the finger at any one past president, which people are tired of.
I would also compare opposition to lord farquad (even paste their heads over him) just for the lols
"Some of you MAY die, but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make."
The thinking goes that the reason alarm over Ukraine is dying, is because essentially what Americans have is war fatigue. You cant constantly use the same tactic, shouting fire in a theater, and expect people not to start tuning you out. So by minimizing the war now, it may be expanded later. That's the thinking anyway.
Hopefully ideas like these help, in whatever capacity, to accelerate the collapse.
