They made the F1-12 buttons require the Fn key, and the shit like volume and brightness adjustments are the primary function now. It used to be the other way around, as God intended. Now I have to press Fn + Mute to refresh my browser.

the function keys were always meant to be macros. most people are familiar with other keyboard shortcuts to perform actions like refresh, create new, or even close. changing the volume, brightness, and other vendor specific functions are not standard across the industry, hence they are appropriate for macros. power users who have their macros can figure out hire to lock the function key.

How about you git deez nuts

The convenience is totally lost when you combine a newer machine (?) with software that all but requires the use of hotkeys. I can't assign "F1" to anything in the software because hitting F1 opens up a Microsoft Edge browser window to some sort of help site.
