I bought a nice Violino Italian leather sofa. Its not full leather, only the cushions and seat back are thick genuine Italian leather. The rest is matching high quality faux leather but you cannot tell. This is a very reputable mid-high brand that uses very high quality leather. It has great bones and is very heavy duty construction. This was a good compromise to get something nice without spending $3k +.
It cost a thousand bucks and its only a 3 seater and about 85" long. My dog may scratch it but its thick and won't be punctured. I don't really care if it gets scratches anyway. Hell, I already scratched it getting it into my condo. Luckily on the back and its only minor. Its really dang comfortable.
I was never happy with my old sofa and I spent a lot of time messing with it trying to make it comfy. I even cut a plank of wood to put under the cushions to firm it up a bit. I got this idea online,, apparently a lot of people do this. I tried all kinds of stuff and it never felt comfortable. Not even when it was brand new. Its actually hard to find a legitimately comfortable sofa.
I was going to put a blanket over it but then I thought what's the point. If it gets scratched it gets scratched. I donated the old sofa, this non profit came and picked it up.
