If we're intelligently designed, explain arthritis. Then explain who designed the designer. Surely the designer is more complex than the thing which he designs, and as intelligent design teaches us: complex things cannot just spontaneously appear.

That is not what ex nihilo means, contextually. You are discussing things that are centuries (greater than 1500 years) old arguments that have long since been addressed.
