A while back I stockpiled a lot of water in gallon plastic jugs and kept them stored at room temp.

They have long since passed the expiration date so I decided to taste some.

It tastes and smells like the plastic.

That's because you need go store your water in glass or lined stainless steal containers.

Last year we moved (downsized) to a small, rural town in Texas. We never use the tap water for drinking or cooking. There have been several 'boil water' notices since we've been here, and notices that advise us to contact the city office if worms are seen in the tap water. The tap water would usually looks like beer, or reeks of chlorine. We put in a filtration system so we feel safe showering and washing clothes. We keep 20 cases of bottled water on hand. We use the oldest case, then get a replacement. The bottled water has been fine (so far). We also catch rain water to use for watering shrubs and our garden. It's a pain in the ass, but our property taxes on our 3br/2bth house on a half acre lot is only $750 a year.
