haven't earned a (constant) paycheck in over a decade, still "work" 8~10 hours a day. This weekend it was felling and clearing several trees and brush to make room for a bigger garden.

Work will stop when you're 1% or dead. But you can get to a place in life where you're not giving your time away to Other people. Live as cheaply as possible (helps to get the kids out of the damn house and off "payroll"), don't pay someone else to do Anything ~ learn to do for yourself and even with tool purchase/rental it'll be cheaper (plus you gain a new skill). Sometimes you get to use those skills to collect money from others... I'm the family mechanic, which was born out of me being too poor to pay a mechanic to keep my POS running (but knowing the library had the info needed and investing in some of the cheapest, shittiest tools available) back about 30 years ago. Or you get more of something than you can use... I made about $500 last year from selling honey and wax.

Oh, but don't do bees... way expensive to get into and takes up a Ton of time.

Is it work that is grinding you down or just existence?

[–] 6 pts

both

You should try to take existence less seriously.

It is almost certainly a joke.

I know, that doesnt make it any easier.

Hey man, markets and the economy are rough right now. If it helps out at all, know that you're setting yourself up to get through the coming hard times. Life won't always be like this, it'll have a different meaning later on. But for now yeah, what you're feeling is what the world is feeling, this suppressive pressure. Find ways to optimize it and get back to the ninja mindset

So kinda view whatever spot you're in just as a gig, make plans for yourself even if you can't act on them now. Appreciate the little things, homemade coffee, a good book, etc. Work out and spend more time with podcasts than on the internet at large or something.

I know a lot of people in the same boat. Some way worse under than others. Not saying "jeeze man you're taking it for granted," but more to say we've just gotta focus on getting ready for EVEN WORSE times. Not mad max or anything, but the growing pains of escaping this globalist system. Which, call me optimistic, I do think is underway. Big changes like this aren't without their speed bumps though

Same. I think daily about just vanishing into the mountains.

Then you learn the dream of living off the grid is fucking expensive unless you're going to squat on someone's property.

I was thinking DEEP in the mountains, far oast where the roads stop.

[–] 1 pt

Right? Still someone's property in most cases sadly.

Never confuse movement with progress

workin the hours I want on a ranch I care about the animals on.

I'm in this boat. Looking at a spreadsheet and financial net worth, I am headed where I want to go, and I think I am going at a reasonable and acceptable speed compared to most people I know around me.

But the day to day grind doesn't change. Progress is not visible. It would be nice to build something, but working hours for money doesn't produce visible results. Perhaps this is one of the reasons going to the gym and fitness is so important. It can become a visible source of progress for many who don't have one.

Nothing good comes easy. I'm working my ass off right now, and I'm not even getting anything out of it.

Yep, 39 years driving heavy equipment ar the same company and I have one more year left. I'm just a robot at this point.

In the same boat. About to hopefully sell my business and retire with a 65k yr income in my low 40s. I'll just keep my bills down and live a simple life. Tired of working just to pay taxes to these fucking crooks.
