I know I’m retarded and dense, but I think you missed the point here. Charcoal is clearly superior to propane, and that is what OP is saying.

Propane is the superior ignition source too though.

I can see that. A propane torch sure beats the hell out of lighting a piece of paper on fire and throwing it into the coals before I burn my hand off.
