You have to understand the insidious way in which they have been programmed. What the mainstream media peddles can't stand up to scrutiny or debate, so the ones programmed by it are programmed to never engage in a discussion. On the internet you see them say that they don't want to give a platform to ideas that are beyond the pale. In person they don't phrase it that way but the effect is the same. On top of it they don't know what it means to engage someone in a healthy discussion. They know is what they see on tv. For example from the Colbert Report, where he says some stupid quip or platitude and an audience of trained seals claps, as if the argument is over and he won, or something similar from a sitcom. That's their idea of having a discussion. To give a more concrete example, during the Trump presidency I'd hear constant jabs my way on the level of orange man bad. If I ignored the jabs they would just continue, and if I engaged them on the topic suddenly they'd lose interest. More recently with Ukraine they simply lost their mind. They are consuming the Ghost of Kiev-tier propaganda and believe all of it. It's all driven by emotion. If you've ever tried to use reason and logic when the other side is driven by emotion, then you know it's pointless to even try.
