Better yet don't say anything, but insist on putting on 2x pairs of rubber gloves before taking it back and put it into a large plastic bag with their name on it.

Plus if you leave your gun at the scene of the crime, unregistered obviously, with their prints, and slip away, with any luck no one knocks on your door ever, or at best days later. But at that point you might as well leave a zero print gun.
