This is a strange decision. Elon Musk cannot be unaware that he alone cannot change anything, because Twitter is completely owned by libtards, including the founder. He is one of the richest people on the planet. It is easier for him to create a new social network where he will be able to ensure freedom of speech for 100%.

Starting a new thing specifically to be free speech tends to not work out well enough to go mainsteam. Gab, Parler, Rumble, etc...here...they all get taken over by certain political elements that scare away casuals. Most people just want cat pics and pop culture and will take censorship and rules over dealing with a barrage of politics they don't like. Very diffilcult to build an influential "free speech" platform. Much easier to take a mainstram one over and backdoor such policies in. Musk doesn't have to control the whole thing to have considerable influence on the board.
