I've always wanted to try hunting hogs. Looks fun.
Sometimes, I think coyotes are better. Alot of times you just see a bunch of hogs. Almost every morning driving out in the dark(private property). Take a shot anyway, who gives a fuck if its a properly placed shot, let the bastards die somewhere else.
I shot a big boar in the ass once with a 30 carbine, fucker turned around and charged me. Two panic shots later he went down. I dont use or carry the 30 carbine anymore. :)
That would be intense. Your story just makes me wanna do it even more. What do you use to take those fuckers down?
Im really not a hunter, just a pest killer when the opportunity arrives, now Its usually a 7.62x39 or the good old 30 30.
Me too. Live in a state that would overregulate the hunting of even if they were a massive nuisance.

Are there many public lands to go and hunt on with good success or is it better to find someone with land to get in with? I'm sure there's a huge array of options but haven't even looked at. I just know I can spend some cash and take a heli ride, which I'd not want to do.

Very true. No license required to hunt hogs in Texas... can hunt 'em 24/7, 365 days a year.
