i went to a local kitchen store, the kind that should be almost all small manufacturers. Almost everything was made in china except for the normal big corporation things (le cruset, german knives, etc.)
I think this is changing since people are starting to do the parallel economy thing (direct to buyers, no "ebay", "walmart", or "etsy" taking a cut.
It would be nice for local shops to carry stuff as well, but there aren't really "sales reps" for the mom and pop manufacturing, so it is up to the stores to source stuff. This also means that they have to share the profit, but maybe it would be the same profit as a business would pay to ship.
