I'm Gen X. The fuck we had it good. Boomer parents never around and when they were it was drunk or high. No time for Johnny or Jill. I need to work late today and when Daddy or Mommy did get home it was Gin and Tonic time. We were the latch key kids, left alone and told to go amuse ourselves. We had no one to ask about bullies, baking directions, or first dates. We either got up the gumption and said fuck it to do it ourselves, asked our bestie, or never did it. We had it so good? Not even knowing IF our parents would be home that weekend? What would we eat? The better parents left a $20 and a phone number for pizza, but that was the BETTER parents. Most said get off your ass and figure it out. We didn't want to do that to our kids because we KNEW what it was like to navigate this world ALONE with no guidance so we over compensated by giving in to every whim and whine so their feelings wouldn't be like ours.
