I was back in the bedroom watching videos with earbuds. SpouseAnon appears at the door saying "I had a stroke". He was really pale. He woke up wedged between a recliner and our propane fireplace. He's had these before, but this time he remembered nothing except waking up with his shorts wet and feeling like crap. I got an aspirin in him and he's resting where I can watch him. His color came back and he was talking and making sense. He refused the ER. BP is fine. So I'll be doing night nurse duty tonight so I can check on him.

*Update he rested well overnight. Got up and had coffee. Read for a bit and off to bed again. Thank you everyone for your positive thoughts and suggestions.

I hope he’s ok. You’re a good wife, he’s lucky to have someone who cares so much.

thanks we take care of each other. When I was injured in a car wreck 20 or so years ago, he carried me upstairs to bed, fed me and everything...meds made my appointments. So now my turn. He's really sweet. Brings me little gifts when he goes out to shop for groceries.

That's far from ideal.

ER won't do anything except give him a CT and keep him up all night. Not our first rodeo.

Yeah modern medicine is kind of a scam. Good for some things, absolutely stupid on others.

Take him to the ER and they will woowoo coinflip influenza PCR test him until they can claim it's the coof that doesn't actualy exist, but him on $3000 pill that fills his lungs with fluid, jam a ventilator in him and jack the pressure up to dangerous levels, then claim he dies from the fake coof so they can get another hitman payday.

Sometimes they do blood thinners just to keep things running smooth

Alternatively maybe give him a beer with every meal.

Alcohol thins blood.

An old doctor told me this once about my 75 year old grandpa...

"He likes beer? That can be a good thing because thinning qualities. 2 beers a day is a-ok"

He had a-fib (atrial fibrillation)

I woujdn't stay home from a stroke. How about an MRI in the ER?

They would do a CT. He's fine resting. Good color. BP normal and he's ambulatory. He has some brain atrophy from AO exposure in Vietnam. These spells are part of that. I have to monitor his meds as he forgets sometimes. He's 74. He got a little excited earlier so that may have brought it on. Seemed to me it was more brain fatigue. He's got no headache or vision issues. The last time he was really out of it slurring his speech, and waving his arms around. I had the EMTs out here. We may go back to Mexico. I had an excellent doctor USA trained and it cost $30 a visit, ER $15. Ivermectin over the counter. Spouse's snow plow days are over.

You should tell him:

DON'T EVER DISRESPECT ME BY HAVING A SMALL BLOOD CLOT IN YOUR BRAIN LIKE ROBERT DENIRO IN THE MOVIE WHERE PHIL HOFFMAN WAS A TRANNY.

That's funny but can't recall the movie. I looked it up. Strange tale.

Yeah, definitely don't let him shovel snow, but certainly pursue cardio once healthy. It begins to get much more important with age and so long as there aren't medical reasons he can't do cardio, he'd probably do good at least considering it.

NOTE: This not medical advice, just some information from a non-clinical person who has experience in this from a close family member. You do with it what you and your husband and his physician think is best.

He probably had a TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). This is often referred to as a "mini stroke" but it is a little different. A TIA is a temporary blockage or other vascular event that causes a portion of the surrounding brain tissue to be damaged from lack of oxygen. They can happen in any part of the brain and are a precursor to more TIAs and increase the likelihood of an actual stroke. He needs to get an MRI scan to see what kind of damage has been done and whether or not there have been others that were not noticed. The lacunar infarcts (affected areas of damage marked by a void space) will show up as white areas on the MRI and the doctors can also check for other damage such as bleeds/staining or fluid build up in the affected and surrounding areas. He should also get an MRA to see the condition of his blood vessels as he may have a condition called Chronic Small Vessel Disease which will lead to more TIAs and strokes.

Does your husband have high blood pressure, diabetes or is taking a statin drug for cholesterol? All of these are factors that will increase the likelihood of more TIAs and eventual strokes. If any of these are a factor, you need to adjust his diet to control his BP, blood sugar and overall vascular health. This stuff does not go away, but it can be managed. TIAs are a wake up call to more serious health issues down the road. This is the time to get things in better order. A low dose aspiring regimen may be used to help in keeping the blood clots/blockages from getting worse, but this treatment option will need to be determined by a qualified medical person. Please do not take this lightly, but also be wary of how the medical industry treats him and always ask questions about everything they intend to do for him.

Take care of him as best you can. Be aware that mini-strokes, once they start, don't stop, and eventually one will probably kill him -- or you will wish one would kill him, when his mind is completely gone, as it will be eventually. I know what I'm talking about -- my mother suffered from mini-strokes. There is no good outcome to this, so prepare yourself.

You have him on the daily baby aspirin thing? Supposed to help prevent.

yes

My grandpa was on coumadin. I was told it thins the blood to prevent circulatory problems. Aspirin too.

I feel for you and your husband.

I live alone and am having pre stroke and heart disease symptoms.

Already have a heart blockage diagnosis and another ECG at the end of the month.

Loads of one sided temple pain now and then due to poor / cloggy circulation.

I'm sorry. Suxs not to have any family. When my husband dies, I'll be completely without family.

Nah, not having anyone is the best thing that can ever possibly happen. All humans suck.

Ummm, you should really see a doctor.
