Frankly, I don't think that's limited to just the Democrats. If the Republicans could claim some sort of moral high ground while doing it, I'm sure they'd do it too. Politicians are pieces of shit, no matter the party.

I think Democrats are way more sadistic and petty

I think they're more open about how they are, but I think the Republicans are more conniving and underhanded about things. I see way too much political theater from them to ever believe that they're not just a different color of evil from the Democrats. The whole left vs. right paradigm is there to be nothing more than the Hegelian Dialectic in human form, IMO.
