Touted to build on women’s rights, the proposal is based on recommendations by a task force which examined issues on the age of motherhood, lowering Maternal Mortality Rate and nutritional levels. The move has sparked debate in the country. AIMPLB member Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali has said it is not appropriate, and is against the traditions of Indian society. He said he would appeal to the Indian government to take back its decision."
