Firearms and ammo.

[–] 3 pts

Got that, my kids are armed and gun nuts. You're right.

[–] 1 pt

Buy farm land. Grow food. Build a retreat.

[–] 1 pt

"Gold won't always get you guns, but guns will always get you gold."

[–] 0 pt

And anything else.

[–] 1 pt

All value is relative. Under certain circumstances, gold will buy you food. But once all the stores are empty? A whole car trunk full of gold won't buy you one can of beef stew. Or one more day of life.

Depending on where you live, and want to live, buy a home. Stop paying rent. We retired and bought a older house (built 1970) in a small rural town in Aug 2020. Just checked the Zillow valuation (I know, not that reliable, but when we bought we paid what Zillow valued it at) and it's 'value' has gone up 20%. Plus in a this small rural town our property taxes a 1/3 what they were for the same size house on a much smaller lot close to a city.

[–] 3 pts

That's the same situation in my small town. Property rates way way up. But, afraid of a real estate bubble and getting in trouble. I dunno.

[–] 4 pts

Buy silver.

[–] 2 pts

Others say gold only (which I don't believe)...I do have junk silver and some silver eagles.

[–] 4 pts

Comes out of the ground 10:1 to gold.

Trades at 90:1

Silver will do at least 9x whatever gold will do.

That being said, silver is heavily manipulated and it may or may not be a while.

Renting at the moment. Have some savings, retired, have about $90,000 income yearly.

Don't wanna do the back to the land thing (I'm old and been there done that and don't have the energy, strength, motivation).

No hobbies (I enjoy educating myself and gardening).

No motorcycle anymore (I do want a jeep).

Maybe a Serval cat would be nice you feel me?

[–] [deleted] 3 pts

If you like gardening, maybe buy a small plot(a few acres) of semi-nearby, farmable land and get things growing, dig a well, build a small shed/shelter.

If the worst happens, you'll have both food to eat and trade, and land to retreat to. If it doesn't, you've got food, a side hustle, and a secret sex den.

[–] 4 pts

No energy for it though lol. Been there done that.

[–] [deleted] 2 pts

Go on vacation with the family and blow a good chunk of it on having some fun.

[–] 1 pt

Dang, you are absolutely right on that...we get too tangled up in 'what if' and 'shoulda coulda woulda.'

[–] 1 pt

If you're renting now and.can work remotely or are retired, buy a decent used RV (motorhomes, 5th wheel or travel trailer) and hit the road. Did it 2 years ago and never looked back. Being mobile has great advantages.

[–] 0 pt

You should see all the RV youtubes I've been watching lol.

I just don't know if that's the right choice though for me.

Cheap living in the most beautiful areas. It's a grand life. Right now I'm backed up to a river in the Ozarks, 15 minutes from a decent size town. All hook ups with wifi... $600/mo. When I get sick of it I move to the next beautiful spot. Give it a go man.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

I did a back-to-the-land thing in Missouri in the eighties, for a while.

The rivers are beautiful, I like the Ozarks better than the Rockies.

Man you could just stay in Missouri...Bull Shoals Lake, Lake of the Ozarks, Table Rock Lake, incredible.

Current River, Eminence River, Mark Twain National Forest, on and on. Buffalo Nat'l River.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

It's getting crowded out there. Too many YouTubers making it look too good.

I think you need to have a piece of cheap empty land you can park on for the future. They are the cheapest and best designed structures you can buy for the money though even if you just park it under a tin roof somewhere.

Amazing how they can lay out a 2000 sf home in a 150 sf space.

Did you do the Dakota legal residence thing? Spend a night in a hotel there and then take advantage of their residency law allowing you to claim it as your state then travel?

[–] 0 pt

It can be a bit crowded. State parks during prime season are impossible to get into unless you book out a year or so. Most have 2 week stay limits. We have been staying the summers in our home state of Minnesota. As far as residence.. We still have our home state as our residence. May change that to either Florida or South Dakota in the future. We sure love the Ozarks though. Lots of room down here.

[–] 0 pt

Haven't covid travel restrictions ruined it all? How does that work now?

[–] 0 pt

Covid was a beeatch at first. The covid thj g literally started the day we started this lifestyle. We got booted from 3 or 4 state parks from Florida, Alabama Mississippi and I think Arkansas. It's all good for now. Private campgrounds, especially in the "red states" have always been open.

[–] 1 pt

Crypto. Buy at least 1 Ethereum token which is currently around $4,000 - 10% of your inheritance. Put another 5% of that into altcoins that are under $10 each.

[–] 0 pt

I know, I keep putting it off, dumb of me.

At least though two of my kids are into it.

[–] 1 pt (edited )

You better buy some before they make it illegal for people with less than $200,000 people to buy. Like they do for most other good investments. Only the rich get chance at investments that can make more than 4% a year for "your protection". Can't have you taking your money out of your 401 K where wall Street traders make their commissions!

But of course you CAN play the lotto where you are guaranteed to lose your money.

Go to binance.us if in the USA. Buy some today.

Or better yet a Bitcoin ATM if there is one near you.

Do very small test transactions first until you know how to do it. Very small like $10. Do at least five. All the way through withdrawal to your paper wallet addresses. Then put some real amounts in some paper wallets and make multiple copies placed in several places and forget about them. Safe deposit box, buried in the ground in watertight things etc. Do not buy hard wallets or electronic gizmos to secure your crypto. They are a gimmick and all have you write down a failsafe password on paper anyway so you might as well just have paper wallets which were the original way to hold crypto and millions of dollars are held that way still today and work just fine and are free.

Spread your crypto out over multiple paper wallets and don't keep them all in the same place. Then forget them. Don't look at prices daily monthly or yearly. Just know in 10 years it will be the most money of all the investments you have no matter how small it is today.

Remember in 10 or maybe 3 years they will be worth 10x so you aren't storing a $1000 on each wallet you are storing $10,000. So unless you want to be messing with $10,000 wallets in 10 or 3 years (and thinking if I mess this transaction up I lose $10,000) put no more than $100 on each so they'll only be $1000 in ten years.

Sounds good, I really appreciate the info.

[–] 1 pt

Think OPSEC: Be cautious about withdrawing the cash from the bank -- remember than any actual cash withdrawals over $9,999 are automatically reported to the Feds. If you are going to buy gold with some of the money (which I recommend), order the 1/4 ounce gold pieces as they are much easier to exchange when needed. Reputable gold coin sellers only and pay with a certified check, not cash since they report that to the Feds.

Use some of the money to pay off any outstanding bills which you may (or may not) have. If you don't already have one, invest in a good quality night vision scope for your weapon of choice -- mine is mounted on my SKS since that is what I will use for close-in targets on my property.

If you are a marksman and prefer head-shots, no need for armor-piercing rounds. Tracers not needed since they just make you a target as I know from Vietnam and my M1919 .30 cal machine gun on a bipod.

Use some of the money to do something you have always wanted to do -- but avoid Oriental Massage places.

Good Luck!

[–] 1 pt

>avoid Oriental Massage places

But, but....

Great advice, thanks. Had many older friends who went to Nam, I barely escaped.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

Do NOT try to avoid the feds seeing your transactions. It's called structuring and it's a crime. They can easily detect it since they monitor all transactions from all venders now down to the penny.

Just buy legal things. You can't hide from them anyway.

It's legal to own gold. Buy some. It doesn't matter if feds know you did. Hide it and forget it.

All this talk of guns and stuff is ridiculous. If it gets that bad there will be helicopters over your house taking you out. About the only thing a gun is good for is avoiding rare BLM riot type events. But your best move there is to move out of those high density places long ago.

Guns don't work in the long run. Look at south Africa. Guns stop working once they have control of the government because they'll ban yours or just bring more than you have.

Guns just draw attention to yourself and make you a first target by governments.

Be the guy with the milk cow hidden in the barn not the guy with the guns.

[–] 1 pt

Buy guns and ammo, then lease a few acres of woodland on a mountain and build a cabin a-la Unkie Ted-style

[–] 1 pt

I'm too tired to do that lol. I did when I was younger, in the Ozarks.

[–] 2 pts

Get a RV then

[–] 0 pt

I tell you man, I am hard to please.

Lol, I would love to do just that, and I just might.

If you buy a home that is attached to the utility grid and high land taxes you haven't bought any lower cost of living for the future. Those will all be unaffordable.

You need to invest in things that will rise much faster than the dollar collapse.

Right now only crypto does that.

Your money has to grow faster than your bills will rise.

Again. Only crypto has done that.

I am talking the real inflation. Not the fake numbers.

And you have to accept that you will not have health care or insurance. You have to do what the pioneers did. Est right and trust your body and avoid bears and stupid accidents.

Because if you are involved at ALL in buying health insurance or long term care or taking prescriptions then there is no way even crypto can grow faster than those costs.

The global fiat system has imploded this year. Look at the price of meat. Of even cheap shoes. It's done for most people. There won't be a revolution they will just die quietly in their homes. That what the lockdowns have taught us.

What you need to bet the coming inflation apocalypse is a source of heat. Can be solar or wood if near forest. A source of food. Chickens, eggs, a milk cow. Potatoes.

You need to have no utility ties and not be in an area where they will soon reach either.

You need to forgo health insurance etc. And remain healthy like everyone did before all that.

Don't do stupid things. Don't eat sugar. Have antibiotics. Accept that one day you will die but at least you'll have freedom for the time you are alive.

If it were me, I'd buy a turn key used sailboat with as many of the "bells and whistles" as I could find. Stock that bitch with food, fuel, water, and extra batteries.

That or,

As much ammunition as I could find for the money.

[–] 0 pt (edited )

I did this years ago.

Problem is storage. As expensive to have in a dock as rent.

Unless you are going to be away from docks and living out in the water.

Even so when you approach land it gets expensive. Visa fees. Water and food more expensive. Wifi very expensive.

And you need to do boat maintenance every 3 to 5 years which means boat out of the water.

Also can't just drop anchor anywhere any more. Coastal cities force you to moorings and then charge you per night.

And you use deisel for electricity and moving and making water although new solar panels can take about 1/5 of that burden now unless you have a big catamaran with lots of panels.

It's not at all what it used to be.

Like with RV s jealous homeowners hate you and try to ban you or encourage local politicians to restrict you or charge you money to use public roads or water to park in while keeping it free for themselves. Meanwhile local homeowners use roads we all have paid for for free, park their cars for free on them while filling their garages with junk, dump their sewage in pipes going to the ocean or landfill instead of in waste handler's like boats and RVs, generate 10x more trash and waste than a boat or RV owner, have far less efficient appliances and have dwellings made of paper machace and paint that don't last. But boat owners and RVs living mostly self contained lives are the bad guys.

[–] 0 pt

You know I've never been on a sailboat in my entire life?

Sounds fantastic.
