My barber did too, only in his trailer barber shop. He literally pulls his barber shop around on a trailer with a generator. Inside, it's like a normal barber shop. He now has a real ATM.
The business owner collects partial fees from the ATM transactions. It's not a lot of money. ATM vendors install and maintain the machines. They will usually install one in a higher traffic area if they can. Don't forget, the store owner is already paying the lease on the square footage the ATM occupies. It's a reasonable arrangement for everybody so long as it is used by the customers.
Over time, as awareness of the presence of the ATM spreads locally, more and more people will come into the shop just to use the ATM. This provides the barber with the opportunity to display some impulse purchase items in the same vicinity as the ATM and probably generate some additional sales revenues from that customer stream.
Done properly, it's a win for everybody.
