I feel like i set myself up for failure on these situations. But I am a very generous person, usually to the point that I start getting affected by my own decisions negatively. Financially I am doing relatively well, I like helping people, I don't mind that. In this case, every time I help someone, I usually put my life on hold to help that other person. So financially to help others, I usually forsake my own wants in the process. I honestly don't mind doing this, I simply don't see myself as someone deserving of things in general. I usually see it as other people will always be in need, so if i can help them, than my sacrifices are worthwhile for others. This also affects dating, since no woman would ever date someone so volatile, I find most women absolutely despise my generosity, and I can kind of understand why. Imagine working off one set of numbers, only to find those numbers can change any day of the week. Not that I have any thing I really bring to the table anyways, so i dont think women are missing out on much. The issue becomes whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.

So financially to help others

Start out by not letting your altruism affect your money. This burned me a few times. Make sure your life is stable, and comfortable. Then you can determine how you can help others.

I usually see it as other people will always be in need,

This is true, and they will bleed you dry, dragging you down. Purposefully or not.

What I find interesting is the dynamics change. All of a sudden its one group explaining why they are more in need or something. A lot of times, people are poor due to extremely shitty life decisions, not because thy were handed bad luck

Ok, if you know this, why do you still give people your time and money???

Because I still feel responsible as an individual to help those in need, even if it means i know im getting screwed over. My parents taught me i dont matter except as an extension to their own wants, so the attitude has stuck since then
