If it doesn’t work, it’s probably the old capacitors, they fail over time. But luckily they are easy to replace. It’s common in ham radio, the first thing you do when restoring an old radio is recap it. The same applies here. Also, I remember cleaning the tape heads with a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol, good times!
