The Indians on the islands where Columbus explored would take a young boy, castrate him, force feed him like foi gras, and then eat him as a feast.
The Conquistadores conquered a civilization of millions while being thousands of miles from home... they didn't do it alone. The "Aztecs" were a group of tribes who joined together into an empire and killed and enslaved everyone else, so their enemies were more than happy to help the Spanish. After things calmed down, the people groups naturally merged as things tend to happen.
is really good for information about it if you can read subtitles or speak Spanish.
Even the Aztecs were invaders from the north, and not native to that area. Most people/tribes of the area HATED the Aztecs, because they kept the area in a constant state of war and tribute, and would force all surrounding tribes to give tribute to the temples for human sacrifice.
Cortez wrote about his visit to Tenochtitlan (what is now Mexico City), and how the screams of the people being sacrificed could be heard from sunrise to sunset, every single day.
Here is a great story about Princess Papantzin, and how she was shown a vision from an Angel about how the Spanish would come and destroy the Aztecs for their sins:
Mourning the loss of the Aztecs is like mourning the destruction of the Canaanites. They all had it coming and deserved what they got.
