Well, they're totally different proteins altogether, so there's that.
Now what they could do is inject people with an agent that's known to cause healthy prion cells to malform and spread, causing a prion disease. Or injecting existing prions to the same effect.
I'm not sure how long that would take to see. Inflammation of different kinds seems to be the main negative side effect, and some think inflammation is responsible for a lot of the neurological diseases that are also associated with prion diseases, so it's possible.
But I haven't seen any good evidence for prion disease so far, so I'm doubting that's it. I don't think they're trying to kill us all, I think they're globally testing new vaccine technologies, and the deaths are just data points.
