You see it a lot in the North east, where you have to "grind" until some undetermined amount of time because reasons, usually idiotic ones like owning a new car or whatever. And a lot of times, i feel like its just useless. Who fucking cares? You have a new car, but Ecclesiastes clearly states you come from nothing and will die with nothing. So yeah, amass whatever you want, no one will remember who you were, and at the end of the day no one will care come a month from your death. But hey, apparently im the psycho one for not wanting to stress myself into an early grave

The mentality itself is fine. Setting big goals and then achieving them by pushing yourself hard is really good for you especially as a man. Not doing this is a big part of why "good/easy times create weak men" because they have the option to not do this.

But you're 100% right that you can waste your life on this if your goals are superficial. If your big goals are useless and don't help you or your people then this is just a way to exploit our natural drive for greatness and that's probably the part that you sense and hate.
