So they took me in for the lightning round call yesterday, standard corporate "where did we fuck up" call, how can we do better. I was completely apathetic the entire call (I have already lined up multiple backup offers and scenarios so i couldn't care what they say anymore), and it "broke" the system. It was completely accidental, but my manager pretty much admitted they cant fire me, and at this point they would need to contact HR to figure out what to do next. But what's strange, is that i told them i wanted to resign, and he told me to hold off so they can contact my vendor to figure out the rules. So i guess i cant quit/resign/be fired even if i want to? And this is why corporate America deserves to die, because of this right here. Either this is a stall tactic of some sort, or they guy is that incompetent he's never had to fire someone, but this reeks of favoritism and vendor politics

If they can't fire you, go ahead and start working the other job and collect 2 checks until they figure out how to fire you.

Yeah they said they can terminate me during contract renewal, which would be 3 months from now, but not before. So I guess free money until then?

They are trying to intimidate you. Apathy is your best weapon.

Gonna be honest, how in the ever loving shit would this work as an initmidation tactic on someone who has shown visible apathy already? Force me to stay for no other reason than because, as if them extending the job contract is an act of belevolence?

Are you a slave? No? Then take another offer if you want. What kind of cucked state do you live in where you can't just leave?

If he's got a contract, they could sue for violating terms. Same reason his employer can't fire him, probably.

Corporate contracts are FUCKED. Government contracts, even worse.

They could probably take you to court but they would also lose. 3rd parties cant make agreements between themselves over the fate of a separate individual. They cant bind you in a way to prevent you from working somewhere else only prevent you from disclosing confidential systems.

Did they hire you through an agency? Thats what it sounds like these corporations trade us around like pokemon. Come up with all kinds of agreements between themselves about you like you are cattle. If you really want to break their system just don't show up and start working somewhere else.

Agency contractor, yup

Tell them you'll be working from home until they figure out what to do. If they object, tell them their plans for sanitizing the workplace are a health hazard, and that you'll contact OSHA, EEOC and HR if they force your hand.

Ive worked agency for a while, and this one is surprising to me, i have never seen an employer this scared by a vendor before
