The state can put whatever price it wants, can punish you due to your behavior and "social credits" like China CCP terrorist do, and what's worse, the state controls the power network and energy grid, and I'm all for people being off the grid.

They can make solid state nuclear power plants the size of a bread box that would power your car for a century. What do you think powered Voyager? Governments are just terrified of nuclear material coming into the hands of average human beings. That's why we don't have them.
