One of the things I buy is a case of washer fluid, which will usually last me about 6-8 months, with another for the winter. Normally, they have boxes of the standard blue stuff everywhere, but today there was none. Even the good Rain-X stuff was just about sold out, and the other shelves of just odds n ends were looking a little barer than normal.

It looks like supply lines have never recovered from last year's lie, and if they do it again things like that may become unavailable. It may be nothing, but it's just an observation.

I run out fast. I spray tailgaters

My commute includes a bit of high speed interstate. Trucks throw up a lot of dirt so I go through a bunch in the wetter seasons.

So it was you who cleaned my windshield.....

Bonus if its a convertible with the top down

Everything important is in short supply. The part store near me can't keep lots of standard oil filters in stock regularly and they won't even attempt to order a radiator. New orders on good boots are up to 4-months out - that's unheard of. Mattresses and lots of other appliances are months out and retailers aren't even trying to guess when they'll be available, just order and wait. Flagging, ribbon, and marking paint for forestry work is backordered for months. Most of those products are not things that people went out of their way to stockpile last year.

Everyone who lurked it up on enhanced unemployment and gibs after they had the opportunity to go back to work should be shot alongside the lockdown planners.

Yes, I agree completely. I did notice the oil filters as well, the bog-standard Ford FL910S hasn't been on the shelf for months.

You ride a horse instead it’s greener plus when you get hungry you can eat the horse. You can’t eat a truck

but who wants to walk on a stomach of horse???

You go through more washer fluid in 6 months than I go through in twenty years. I still have about 1/4 of a gallon bottle that I bought in ~2005. Do you just drive with your sprayers going pretty much all the time?

[–] 0 pt

No, my commute has about 25 miles of 70MPH wide-open interstate. There's a lot of dirt that gets picked up by doing that, especially in the winter because the stretch I travel is used by a lot of commercial traffic.

[–] 0 pt

And, to be fair, this is normally what I would buy for the winter. I'm just getting my supplies in early this year. I feel like things are going to get strange soon.

I’ve had my car two years, still running on whatever the dealership put in there.

If you live in a rural area you'll use a lot more (gravel roads + bugs).

I was hanging out at the local beach on Saturday, 20-25 Container ships. Possibly more. Just anchored off the shore about the same distance as the Oil Rigs.

Those are some nice pictures.

[–] 1 pt

Not my photos. But I agree. They are nice.

Funnily enough, mental health seems to also be in short supply. I've been trying to find a psychiatrist, for legal reasons I'm obligated to not get into, and they're all booked up into December.

I can give you a certificate that says you’re crazy, if that helps.

Four months ago I got an oil change and they told me they’ll charge three dollars extra if I wanted my washer fluid topped when it’s normally free with the service due to supply chain issues.

Does windshield washer fluid have an expiration date? Maybe that's something worth putting on the prepper's list and buying in bulk.

Or, maybe it's just a luxury, I guess you could just fill up with water.

[–] 0 pt

No expiration date, although I assume that it will eventually get something that wants to grow in it. It's sealed, storing it for a few years won't do much.

Water is ok in a pinch, but if you're in an area where you can experience freeze, you don't want water in a closed tank with tubing and a pump. You'll replace all of them when it freezes.

I live in a place where freezing isn't an issue. Maybe I'll stock up and ride in style after the apocalypse.

Everyone else is going to have zombie guts splatted on their windshield, but not me!

Also,

Hmmm...looks like Dew and Debbie is probably not a good thing to store?

[–] 0 pt

Can't you buy it in tablet form that you just mix with water? Probably from China...

[–] 0 pt

I’ve seen cleaner for windows in that form ( like for your house ) but car washer fluid usually contains some solvents to help break road grime down.

[–] 0 pt

If it is not freezing, can't you use soapy water. And can we add something in water so it won't freeze, like alcohol?

[–] 1 pt

That’s what washer fluid is. Alcohol.

Soap generally isn’t great unless you’ve got something that doesn’t leave residue.

What kind of idiot are you that you bought an item that depreciates 30% the instant you buy it?

[–] 1 pt

What kind of retarded faggot buys a vehicle as an investment?

[–] 0 pt

Anyone that buys a car.

[–] 2 pts

urbanite can't into the concept of open space

I don't even like pickups but I hope some old boy rolls coal on you next time you hop on your fixie bike.

[–] 0 pt

Yes. Horses and cars and planes. Isn’t it awful being free to travel?

[–] 0 pt

I bought a old tractor as investment.

Don't hold onto cash

Instead by items that hold value

Older cars for example. They are already new devalued and now value grows from scarcity and parts availability and ease of maintenance

[–] 0 pt

Yeah, that's true. Diphit above was clearly pretending everyone only buys cars as investments and not as necessary transportation though, which is what my comment was aimed at.

[–] -1 pt

You, if you have a car. It's a shit investment. All it will do is cost money...

[–] 0 pt

Exactly, who needs to get to work anyway?

[–] 0 pt

Sure, I'll just quit my job and not go anywhere. You buying?

[–] 0 pt

No, as I used to live in a place where no car was needed. Everything within one mile of me. Flyover country can't do that.

[–] 3 pts

That's nice I guess. I live in a place where it's cheap to live, and it let me buy a car that's lasted me 14 years. The last trip all of my cars have ever made is to the scrap yard, except for the first one I owned which I wrecked because I was an idiot teenager.

Faggots buy cars and trade them in every 3 years. I don't plan on considering getting rid of the one I have now until it gets to 300k

Wow good for you. Enjoy your shit city. No one gives a fuck.

[–] 0 pt

I dont have to walk on used needles driving.
