Colorado is now considered a 'swing state', so is no longer to be seen as a red state. I'd predict it will swing ever more to the left in the years to come. Don't make the mistake the idiots in Seattle or Portland did, and set roots. Make it a stopping off point, while you look for better place (i.e. an actual red state).
I also live in Co, but moved from Illinois (not Chicago).
There are lots of free hiking spots, but most of them near enough for a day drive are completely overrun. Some popular hiking spots now need a reservation. Look at All Trails if you're having a hard time finding a free trail.
People here are really outdoorsey in my experience. Maybe not so much in Northern Colorado, but more so than Illinois. I'm not sure where you're from, but it would be really easy to get lost in Rocky Mountain National Park, for example, if you just picked a direction and started walking. It's also frowned upon because it's destructive to the natural environment to go off-path. I know you'll call me a pussy for that - go ahead.
Gun laws - Colorado enacted a "red flag" gun law about a year ago. That's bullshit.
Tabor is legit, and it was only enacted because Colorado is one of few states where citizen-led initiatives actually have a chance of becoming part of the Colorado constitution. However - changes were made recently to make it harder for citizen-led initiatives to be approved to make it onto the ballot.
Also - we recently 1. allowed illegals to get a driver's license and 2. automatically registered someone to vote any time they got a license / renewed. Think about that.
And our covid response has been bullshit.
Colorado bans you from selling a non registered vehicle. This is again very different from my other state, where a car did not have to be registered to be sold (title holding state). I essentially have a lemon car i can not sell or drive until the title paperwork is done, which cant be done for now until the title arrives from the other state. This is blatant complete bullshit to me, i can understand the title, but forcing a car to be registered to be sold smells like a complete erosion of private property.
So if you had a barn find muscle car that hasn't been registered since the 70's registered before you can buy ti to fix it up?
That is correct, the title can be transferred to you, but the car would need to be registered if it was to be sold, or driven through any non private channel (dealer, mechanic, emissions, etc). You can technically work on it in your private property, assuming it never, ever leaves the private property, and never steps foot on a public road. So you can put the car on a trailer just fine, but the car itself can not touch the road. They do technically give you 48 hours to "register" the car, which is batshit dumb since the nearest appoinemtn i could find was 2 weeks out, meaning anyone buying a private sale car has effectively committed a crime in (((current year)))
I left CO, Larimer County to be exact in the early 80’s because of that shit. Hiked, climbed, skied and hunted all over that state and then suddenly it turned full on KGB control freaks. Been back twice since then for short periods to see family and the whole time I couldn’t wait to fuk’n leave. It’s a beautiful state, but unless you like feeling that you could be arrested at any moment for just being a human it’s worth skipping as a destination place. Live there? No fuk’n way. It’s a beta test for outlandish governmental overreach and soviet style policing. The lust for money from the people of the state and the absolute control over every aspect of what had once made it a great place to live, work and play is unbearable. I’d leave if I was you, you sound like someone who knows a little too much about freedom and that can only land you in trouble there. You definitely won’t like their rigged from top to bottom justice system. Good luck friend!
That's where I am now, its soooo fucked up now.
Colorado. Pretty on the outside, ugly ass motherfuk’r on the inside. I ain’t never lived in a place more twistedly determined to suck you into their money and soul devouring systems of every imaginable make and model. Now it should be said the western slope isn’t as bad as that front range is, but it slips more and more every year as wealthy liberal retards discover it. Plus it falls under the same damn laws put forth by the Mile High City of Communist Cunts. Colorado isn’t the only state in the Union that’s this way, pretty much all of them are to a greater or less degree one way or another. Sadly for us, there isn’t gonna be a Mayflower for us to just sail away from it all on.
