The whole thing is ridiculous
They had wealth (often gotten in scandalous ways which was why people didn't like them or why they were threatened with prison) and they sold that art for high prices which often saved their lives and allowed them to move and take other belongings.
Unlike regular people in Germany who could not escape the danger of war so werre killed.
Then now almost 100 years later heirs.. who in no way ever suffered and likely are alive because of the trade made for the sale of the often ill-gotten riches...now those heirs get to reclaim those paintings without any payment from whoever has them and they often sell them for millions.
It's ridiculous.
EVERYONE IS UNDER DURESS WHEN THEY MAKE A DICISION TO SELL SOMETHING TO PAY FOR SOMETHING ELSE.
Heirs should at least have to pay the previous owner for the present value or at least a court judgement for present value of any substandard previous sale price if they can convince a court it was worth more. But they don't. Its handed to them at the expense of the current owner who often paid for them heavily.
It's a scandal.

Its unbelievable. These old Jewish families often profited from ripping off the public which was why they were dislikedin the first place. They profited from the sale of their art and now they get to have their heirs come back and get it back again in a second rip off from whoever owns it now and resell it AGAIN
