I find it very interesting how big seasonal sport events such as soccer are held specifically during summer. The season when the temperature is high, emotions are boiling, and the aggression is very easy to provoke. And the sport being the only thing where we're allowed to express our tribal in-group preferences, even though the teams are full of foreigners. Works great when you want to grow a generation of spectators who only like to watch and follow.

I would think it's simply a matter of practicality. Sure, they could use indoor stadiums during the winter.. but not every venue would have that feature.

Soccer, football, etc.. are generally played on a grassy field, outside. That necessitates the need for cooperative weather.

Would I say that the decision to hold these events during the summer is made with the specific intent of elevating emotions and provoking aggression in sports fans? No. It is simply the practical thing to do.
