Whilst I can understand the appeal, I feel like modern day Christianity is weird. There are so many plaguing issues Christianity has in today's world. The first one is most churches are desperate for members, causing a complete revocation of the core principles. They've started letting everyone in, regardless of who they are, including gays, transgenders, and who knows what else. This is also shown by the complete downplaying of some of the teachings of the old testament.
The second is low members = low dues. This wouldn't be such a big deal, if it wasn't brought up literally every week. I get it, churches need money to function, but you know what turns me off the church? Making it into an event every sunday where you talk about it.
But realistically, the issue is the weird inconsistencies between all the factions. For example, we use KJV standard which is nice. But how do we know which bible version is right? How do we know which is wrong? If God truly wanted us to know his words, why are their so many factions of Christianity, split upon multiple books, all over the place. And why does Jesus in the bible always seem to talk in super cryptic parables which have yet to be understood properly by people who have studied the bible for years?
