Why do we suffer when we aren't physically hurting? This is a deep answer and will require some contemplation to confirm - from Chapter 11, Verse 5 of the ancient tome - The Ashtavakra Gita:

"It is worry that gives birth to suffering, nothing else. The one who knows this firmly is free from worry, happy and calm, all longings having perished."

"It is worry that gives birth to suffering, nothing else. The one who knows this firmly is free from worry, happy and calm, all longings having perished."

Truth.
The layman's version of that quote is from Chuck Palahniuk: "No fear. No distractions. The ability to let that which does not matter truly slide."

One of my favorite authors! From which novel is that particular quote?

Fight Club. I re,ember remember hoping they wouldn't ruin the book when they made the movie and being pleasantly surprised.

EDIT: Typo. I was on mobile.

I almost never see a movie from a book I’ve read for that very reason, but I agree about this particular one. Adjustment Day is befitting for our current times, and Choke is one of my favorites of his.

I blame my wife.

I had more than one of those - I was always worried that I couldn't get rid of her without losing my stuff.

I was always worried that I couldn't get rid of her without losing my stuff.

I used to be that way, too.
Over the years of being married (20 and counting) I have distilled down to such a state that nothing of "mine" is anything she'd want. Anything of "ours" she can have with my blessing.
Sure, she could decide to be petty but she's worth a shit ton more than I am and has much more to "lose" in a contested divorce, so I'm not worried.

Mine doesn’t have the combo to the gun safe, so there is that.

My situation exactly.

I agreed Till Death Do Us Part but Death is taking his sweet-ass time... take ONE OF US god-damn it, at this point I couldn't care which!
