I think it's backwards. I think it's that only truly happy and autonomous people spontaneously decide to get together at least once a week to talk about their shared culture.
Fellowship and community and shared belief build strong enduring civilizations. Its not about any given religion, per se, but any given religion provides these things. Thats why we invented religion. It's an amazing tool to make a people better.
Just remember, those assholes feed the homeless, support Israel, import niggers, send money to afreeka, etc
A stable, organized religion is necessary for the stability and happiness of a society. One of the main reasons we are having the problems we are having in the West is the atrophy of Christianity. It's a void that will eventually be filled, probably by Islam. It's not a case of, "Can we get along without a religion?" No, we cannot. There will be a religion -- it's only a matter of which religion fills the void.
