I often hit it accidentally, and don't see any way to unblock. How does one make the post visible. Why the fuck do we have the button anyway? If we don't want to see something, we can scroll past it

Go to you user profile's sidebar. There's a new "View Hidden Posts" section.

You could have scrolled in to find the answer to your question.
