I just got out of a conversation with someone very upset at the new naming convention, and someone else ridiculing him for it, so I thought I'd share some thoughts.

Hey guys I get it, there's a lot of consternation on this front. It was a surprise, it's already been a few days, change is scary, it's inconvenient for certain aspects of communication BUT:

Consider the following benefits:

1) It helps to relieve you of preconceptions

You can interact purely with the content of the post as opposed to coloring your perception of it by the person who posted it.

2) It's fun to try and guess who everyone is by their writing style/ personality

3) You can just type your name if it really bothers you, or you want to differentiate yourself from another poster in the thread

Did this just now in the thread that made me want to post it

4) It's festive.

We all know what we signed up for. This is a quirky site run by quirky people, like most people who stay here. Be flexible in your expectations. Try it out. Just go with it for a bit without trying to fight it and you might be able to see some benefits.

It was a dumb idea from the start. You don't mess with other people's stuff, even if you think it is funny. Being April 1st gave them an excuse, but that excuse ended on midnight. We've still got these retarded scrambled names. It's hurting Poal. It's sending people away from here. It's really, really stupid.

I hear ya bro. Your concerns are valid. But I don't think it's hurting Poal, and personally I'm not planing on going anywhere; I've looked at a lot of other places and even if I did hate this naming convention thing like others seem to, this place would still be the best (imho).

Contrast the benefits you get from this site to the 'cost' of this little inconvenience. I'd say it's still a deal. Maybe just try to put your mind around it for a bit. It's like forcing yourself to eat something that's out of your comfort zone; you might find that you enjoy it.

Or don't. Whoever you are, I hope you don't leave (unless you're that wretched downvote cunt godsangell, in which case, yes please leave).
