I am old enough to remember the spontaneous efforts people online went to come up with april fools pranks, they were fun and organic. Then out of nowhere everyone saw it as an opportunity to show others how 'with it' they are and before we know it it became a day of PR stunts and commercialization. It is even worse now because it is no longer possible to distinguish truth from bullshit.
