First of all its too cold half the year. At least for a Florida boy. Other than that I would get on FDR Drive which circles Manhattan and go 100 mph! On the east side its elevated , has tunnels, and is a blast to race on. Watch out for potholes. I totaled a Government vehicle driving into a pothole. No joke.

Drivers are aware of bikes and theres a lot of them in the city. Riding over the Verrazzano bridge theres about 100 yards of metal grate. 2" squares. Its like riding on ice. The Triborough bridge has the same grate. Super slippery. In fact everything in the city is covered with oil or dirty. If you brush up against a lamppost or a building you'll have a nice layer of filth on you.

I took a wrong turn once and got off the freeway too soon. I was in Brooklyn right near the Williamsburg Bridge. I could see it but couldn't find the on ramp. I would stop and ask people sitting on porch stoops for directions. NO ONE SPOKE ENGLISH! Or at least they pretended they didn't.

I was sitting at a red light in lower Manhattan. All of a sudden someone jumps on the bike behind me! WTF? I turn the bike off and jump off. Its a fukn bag lady! I begged her. I threatened her. Nothing worked . She just kept saying " lets go to my place honey. Ive got beer and peanuts". I see two NYPD walking up the street. I say " Officers! This woman jumped on my bike and wont get off!". THEY LAUGHED AT ME!!! I finally got smart and offered the old bitch $5 to get off and leave me alone.

This story describes New Yorkers too a T. I was walking through Times square one December and slipped on ice and landed hard wrong. I layed on the side walk for 15-20 seconds. People were stepping over me without even looking down! That's fucking NY for ya.

I was there from '84 to '86. The WTC was still standing. I'm glad I got to see it but NYC was a shithole. I lived on Governors Isl. A USCG base about 1/4 mile from the southern tip of Manhatten. About the same distance from Brooklyn. All you heard all night was sirens in Brooklyn.

FDR drive was a blast but I wouldn't recommend living there. Or even visiting for that matter.
