Act accordingly.
Why? It doesn’t matter. Literally nothing matters. Our species is extinct before 2100 and nothing will ever be remembered of our existence or creation. Why do anything except prevent that?
Why do anything except prevent that?
Are you implying there is something we can do to stop this calamity you propose will occur before 2100?
If not, then all you are doing is whining about something you cannot change.
Why bother asking for something to do when you're conclusion is "we're screwed and nothing matters".
If that's the case, then why not just kill yourself now? If nothing matters, and there's no point, then why bother? Why did you even spend the energy to type what you did? Clearly, some part of you believes there's somethng in this life worth hanging on to. Fight to live, my friend. Even if this existence is ephemeral, you exist now, so do something.
This is my fundamental issue with naturalistic views of existence. Naturlaism being the belief that there is nothing past the physical. If that is the case, if there's nothing after this life, then EVERYTHING is pointless and any philosophy is predicated on nihilism. Given the choice between the two, and given that neither view can be proven nor disproven, I choose to go with the non-nihilistic perspective.
do something
What, then. And why. The formal plan for my life right now is to off myself once I’ve sold all my possessions, so if you can give me a reason to bother living—a single fucking reason you think that human civilization itself, never mind my species, will exist beyond 2100 given current information and the last century of history—I’m all fucking ears.

For the life of me, I can’t understand how these people get out of bed in the morning. Unless they’re literally nothing but animals, who only act based on stimulus response and instinct. For those of us who are sapient, the idea that others aren’t like us (indeed, are so fundamentally different) is dismissed offhand. We can’t fathom that the vast majority of people simply don’t THINK. They don’t have a mind, in the way that we understand “humanity” to have a consciousness.
I grow concerned that they really don’t. and I grow concerned that we’re literally wasting time and effort in treating them as though they do.
I'm not sure what you think is going to happen to wipe out humanity by 2100. If you mean like a meteor that's gonna kill us all, then it is all quite hopeless. But, if you're fear is that humanity will degrade itself into non-existence by 2100, then there is absolutely something you can do about that. I'm not sure how old you are, but if you're <45 and start a family, your grandchildren (whom you could directly influence the development of) could live well past 2100. You, yourself, could ensure the continuation of humanity, at least, the continuation of humanity preserved in its current state.
I've spent the past couple days mulling over our conversation. I am definitely saddened that you're trying to kill yourself. I realize this world is broken, and there seems little hope. But, if you don't try, then nothing will ever get better. If you and I don't fight for humanity (not degeneracy) then no one will.
From my perspective, even if we're all doomed, and humanity won't make it past 2100 because of degeneracy, then at least by fighting against degeneracy I can give the finger to all those promoting it. Since our only options are: Die without a fight, or Die fighting, I'm going to go with the latter.
From what I understand, you seem to believe in a meta-physical, some kind of afterlife or "higher power" possibly. I don't know where your beliefs stand, but I would highly recommend you read some religious and philosophical texts (I recommend starting with the Bible). You may have already read them all. In which case, I'm sure a religious discussion with you would be fascinating. If you do believe in an afterlife, then your struggles in this physical world are not pointless, because you carry your experience with you (depending on what you believe, of course).
You say you want a reason to bother living. I would argue that some part of you wants to keep living, otherwise you wouldn't bother selling your stuff first. For what it's worth, I would miss you. I've seen you around Poal a bunch, and I've appreciated your contrary opinions. This is one of the most interesting discussions I've had on Poal to date. I know I'm just some random internet fag you'll never meet, but know that you've given this human alot to think about. You've had a positive impact on someone in this world.
