Hello. Feeling a bit sad because I lost another pet bird today.
I'm a pet lover and bird owner of many birds for nearly 20 years without problem. Yet at the beginning of 2020, two of my Green Cheek Conures died suddenly from poisoning. My dog, a Shitzu, was 15 years old and couldn't walk so I put pee pads down for him. Well, a couple of my Green Cheeks got into a fight with my Blue Crown, so I separated them because the smaller bird's ankles were injured. Then, I placed them in a cage together away from the bigger bird so they could heal and placed one pee pad below their feet for softness. They started chewing on it and it killed them instantly. I wasn't thinking. Afterwards, my Blue Crown would squawk for hours because she missed them. So, one day early 2020, I held onto her as I took my trash out so she could get fresh air. She had had her wings clipped and had never flown in the 10 years I'd had her as a baby. I took my hand off her for only seconds and she flew away. Not long after that my elderly dog passed. In November of this year, a outdoor hen flew on me in Vegas. I fed her, so she continued to follow me. I thought it was a good sign.
Yet a couple of weeks ago, she seemed a bit lethargic. This continued off an on until this morning I saw she was on her side and unable to stand. As as result, I put a small blanket on her to keep her warm and held her. She just passed away in my arms.
I don't know what caused her sudden illness, but am extremely sad. All of these deaths are beginning to seem like an omen.
Just thought I'd share. I'm feeling very sad at the moment.
( Btw, I still have three healthy birds. My house just seems too quiet now. )
