it works in a similar way to dna tests iirc. they keep on amplifying what they have until they get a result for something
to get a coronavirus result apparently you need to repeatedly run this shit well past the amount of times youre meant to run the test, and by then you are pretty much looking at a million and one different things of which coronavirus is the least dangerous of them and you could by that stage say "Well sorry bud, youve got HIV, herpes, leukaemia, and anaphylaxis we gonna have to put you down"
