So my wife and I share a home office as we have been since the start of the mass hysteria. Out of the clear blue yesterday while browsing the news she declares, "There's a microchip shortage exactly at the same time as the vaccine roll out!? What the fuck are they putting in that vaccine!?" Nice catch, Wife. I hadn't even made that connection. Feels good to know I'm not the only one in the house watching out for scheming communists.

The microchip shortage has to do with the fact that basically every large PC component manufacturer has just released several new lines of products, the PS5 and new Xbox were just released, and every car manufacturer is consuming these kinds of components for features like in dash smart panels.

i may or may not design PCBs for a living, and have to confront these issues personally.

as for the context of your post. My wife is very similar, and sometimes the things she says pleasantly surprises me.

Every industry is contributing to the shortage, auto makers are stocking up and sinking every component from their approved vendors, and China is deliberately limiting production of doped silicon wafers due to gallium limitations, due to another choke on aluminum refining (gallium byproduct from this industry is the primary supply of gallium).

Thanks for being a voice of reason. I trust gas station sushi left in a hot car for 3 days more than that vaccine, but I'm reasonably certain that they're not putting Tensor and CUDA cores in it.
