You're probably fucked. Loans change servicers all the time. My bet is they sent you a notification (they have to) to an address they had on file that you were not at.
That being said, you may be able to get out of the fees due to not being notified, but you didn't know what loans you had, "dashboard" or not?
I flew completely solo all the way through university, and I didn't have time, nor could I stand to look at the debt amount, plus there was nothing I could do about it anyways until I graduated. so i waited until then to look, and I purposely only took loans that didn't accrue interest until after I graduated so I could pay them off with minimal interest.

yeah yeah yeah, everyone think people can go through an infinite amount of paperwork, and should spend all their freetime doing this shit. Also assuming everything is stored, sorted and ready to read. Unreasonable.
