I don't know the full extent of the penalties and interest, but this information wasn't anywhere in the management dashboard, nor did it ever show up in the many credit checks I've had since then, including a business loan I received.

I'm not sure what happened, but my credit union somehow just found out about it and sent me a notification about it. They don't know anything other than there is some loan, and it's 3-4 years in default.

WTF? HTF? I could have paid this crap years ago had I known about it....

Does anyone here know anything about making it not worth it for these companies to try and collect on things like this? I'm guessing the late fees/interest are out of this world, and I do not want to pay for that shit.

You're probably fucked. Loans change servicers all the time. My bet is they sent you a notification (they have to) to an address they had on file that you were not at.

That being said, you may be able to get out of the fees due to not being notified, but you didn't know what loans you had, "dashboard" or not?

I flew completely solo all the way through university, and I didn't have time, nor could I stand to look at the debt amount, plus there was nothing I could do about it anyways until I graduated. so i waited until then to look, and I purposely only took loans that didn't accrue interest until after I graduated so I could pay them off with minimal interest.

You have to sign for loans, didn't save any of the paperwork?

Didn't have time, in 4 years?

yeah yeah yeah, everyone think people can go through an infinite amount of paperwork, and should spend all their freetime doing this shit. Also assuming everything is stored, sorted and ready to read. Unreasonable.

Just pay it.

I've tried. Had the same basic situation. Was in default, unknowingly, for 8 years. They wouldn't even listen. They just say pay it, or they'll garnish your wages. The longer you fight the more interest, penalties and collection costs.

The collection costs get paid before the first dime goes to principal, interest, and penalties. People don't understand that massive debt slavery involved when they default you.

THis is fucking fucked up

It's not, keep track of your debts, terms are stated when you sign.
