Humans had kids for free throughout most of history.
How do the infant mortality rates compare?

Midwife
Yes. But they'll be outlawed when too many people turn to them.
This is the correct answer. One thing people don't seem to understand is that a trained midwife will be able to handle many issues that may occur during childbirth and will be able to recognize a situation that would require a hospital, in which case you simply drive to the hospital.
1 in 2 children died before adulthoood. 1 in 5 women died during childbirth. There was a cost but not in $
No 9ne said get rid of antibiotics.
Yes 1 in 5 died AFTER ALREADY HAVING 6 OR 8 KIDS. Not on their first kid
Modern vitamins fix that.
Just like with sheep. You supplement or the sheep die after 3 kids.
I'm with you in that the medical profession acts like the have a monopoly on a solution to a problem that only they know exists.
That said, baby #2 would have certainly died during labor and #3 likely would not have survived to term without serious medical intervention (both c-sections).
We're planning to VBAC as soon as possible.
Childbirth had a fatality rate of around 1/10-20. I agree that they charge far too much per child and that not all pregnancies are viable, which is why you need more than two, but giving birth outside a hospital can be very dangerous.
Life is dangerous. Going to a hospital is extremely dangerous.
Being in medical debt is dangerous.
Avoiding medical debt literally kills kids that would otherwise be born.
who said you have to go to hospital at all
Most of America since the 1940's (when it was actually reasonably cheap to do so)
But they are starting to realize that is wrong.
