The so-called asymptomatics are mostly people who have such a low amount of virus that it is enough to cause a positive at 35 PCR cycles of amplification but not enough to infect them. Chance of actual infection is going to be some sort of probability curve determine by the number of viruses you have inhaled. At very low viral levels the chance of getting a swab with coronavirus on it seem random. It is important that you understand this to know what the limitations of PCR are. 35 pcr cycles is good if you are trying to rule out uninfected people. It is too much amplification for a diagnostic. So many people get a false sense that they have “fought off” the rona, when they were in fact never infected. Still, number of positive pcrs is a good rubric for *relative* increases/decreases in real infections whereas hospitalizations and deaths are a somewhat lagging indicator. A rational system would distinguish “positive at <=30 cycles” (likely infected) from “positive at >30 cycles (possible infection.) But thats not what we have right now, thank you jews.
